Retirement in West Texas was supposed to be simple: coffee on the porch, crossword puzzles, and minding his own business.
Then Dusty Grant found an emancipated djinn in a collapsed Big Bend mine tunnel, made a few bureaucratic enemies at WARD, and accidentally built a sanctuary on a caliche ridge overlooking the Río Grande.
Today, Stronghold (Book 3 of the Magical Alliance of Concerned Kin) is officially out in the wild.
The Story So Far
In Wishbound, Dusty used his third wish to set Djinni free. In Borderlands, they went off the ledger and built Casa Río Espíritu—gathering an oni mole, a panther-shifting nagual, and a recovering river spirit into an unconventional, fiercely loyal magical family.
Now, the magical authorities have decided their unlicensed refuge has operated quietly for long enough.
In Stronghold, forty-eight hours isn't just a countdown—it’s the difference between fortifying a home and letting institutions treat living magic as property. With bureaucratic pressure mounting and ancient desert currents stirring beneath the caliche, Dusty and his Kin have one clear answer:
Come and take 'em.

A Quick Thank You
To everyone on Patreon, newsletter subscribers, and readers who have shared early feedback and cheered on Dusty, DJ, Cat, Anya, and the rest of the Alliance: thank you. Building this world and its characters has been some of the most rewarding storytelling of my career.
Pull up a chair by the fire pit, watch the river, and enjoy the next chapter of the journey.
